Bridal Opera

Bridal Opera
Why do almost all American weddings use a song ( the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin) from an Opera with such…?

a tragic ending? It just seems like bad luck to me. Why not something a little more upbeat?

Just another random question.
For those who are unfamiliar, It is also called the Wedding March and is sometimes sung in English as “Here comes the bride, All dressed in white…”
I’ve never been to a wedding without it.
My wife and I chose Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Bach. We’ve been married 23 years now. One thing probably has nothing to do with the other, though.

How many Americans do you think have been to an Opera and would know about it having a tragic ending?

I’m not having ‘traditional’ music. I am using a CD of music performed by a string quartet. Of course it is rock music, but done nicely for a church-type setting.-
