Style Women
how could i do my hair in the style women in the 1940′s wore?

here are some pictures of the sort of style i’m going for:

1940'S FASHION

my hair is medium length, probably the length of the woman in the first picture’s if she just had it straight, and i have bangs.

Well, it would depend if you want to wear it like that daily or just once in a while. I work in a hair salon with a lady who has been doing hair since the late 1940′s. I asked her to make sure I was giving you good advice.

For once in a while, you could put it up on large rollers, and then back comb and tease it. If you want a shortcut, take the picture around to some of the oldest beauty salon’s in your area (which are usually fairly inexpensive too!) and ask them if they could “roller set” it to look like the picture. I bet there is a stylist/shop in your town that would LOVE to do it for you since they haven’t done it in a long time.

Watch as she does it, (hint: take someone with you with a video camera and tape how she does it.) Then, practice doing it from the tape.

If you want to wear it like that all the time, roller setting it daily is going to be very time consuming, so you would probably need to get a perm, and then just tease it in the mornings. I would check the same beauty shop as above on doing the perm on rollers instead of rods. An old technique that they do not teach anymore, but works for this kind of style…..this is what they did in the ’60′s to get the big hair of that era. I learned it doing the big hair in the 80′s!

Hope this helps some. If you live anywhere near Pittsburgh, PA email me and I’ll do it for you!
